6MM GRINCH
Here is a list of frequently asked questions concerning the 6MM Grinch. I have spent a good deal of time answering individual questions concerning this cartridge so I thought I'd save myself some time and place them here on my website.
1. What is the Grinch.
The 6MM Grinch is the brain-child of father and son team Dean and Brett Stroud of Cape Girardeau Missouri. The Grinch is a 6.5 Grendel case blown out to a 40° shoulder and neck down to 6MM.
2. Where can I get dies for the Grinch?
Currently Whidden Gun Works makes Full-Lenght dies button dies for the Grinch. As for bullet seaters we reamed out standard Wilson 6PPC seaters.
3. Where can I get a reamer and what freebore do you recommend?
JGS makes reamers for the Grinch. I believe they now have four different variations. We have settled on the .135 freebore. It allows the use of 80 to 105 gr 6MM bullets without a problem.
.120 freebore 264 Neck
.130 freebore 264 Neck
.135 freebore 264 Neck
.135 freebore 268 Neck
4. What velocity do you shoot the Grinch at?
The Grinch for long range thrives between 2820 to 2920 fps using an 8 twist barrel and up to 105 gr bullets. Typically faster than a 6BR but in the lower range of a Dasher.
For short range we shoot 80 gr bullets 3100 to 3280 fps using 12 twist barrels.
5. Is the Grinch accurate?
Yes it's the only cartridge I've seen that can give the 6PPC a run for its money at 100/200 yards. At 600 yard competitions it has become my caliber of choice. Since using the Grinch my personal scores have dropped dramatically
